CORNER BROOK, NL (August 28, 2026) – The Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce Innovation Centre (NLWIC), administered by the College of the North Atlantic, is consulting with targeted organizations and the public to gather input that will help shape the future of workforce development in Newfoundland and Labrador. This initiative is part of the Workforce Development Needs Assessment Project currently being undertaken by NLWIC.
To ensure a comprehensive approach, engagement will include employers, community organizations, Indigenous Governments and Organizations, education and training providers, industry organizations, unions, governments, and other labour market stakeholders from across the province.
As part of this engagement, province-wide consultations will begin with an online survey designed to capture diverse perspectives on current and emerging workforce challenges, skills and training needs, population growth, awareness of and access to workforce development supports, and the unique realities faced by different regions and sectors throughout the province.
“Engaging with stakeholders is essential to understanding the challenges and opportunities facing our province’s workforce,” said Sharon McLennon, Director, NLWIC. “We are committed to ensuring that diverse perspectives reflect the voices of all groups involved in workforce development to build a more inclusive and resilient labour market that supports the growth and sustainability of our communities.”
Consultations, including the survey, will be conducted from August 28, 2026 to October 2026.
After completing the survey, participants will have the opportunity to request a follow-up discussion to further share their insights and experiences with NLWIC.
Survey findings and stakeholder input will inform recommendations for improving workforce programs, services, and supports, including those funded through the Canada – Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA) and the Canada – Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce Development Agreement (WDA).
